    A masterclass in restraint

This was my commute book and it made me miss my stop twice. The middle third is where it truly finds its confidence. It sparked our longest discussion of the year.

    Quietly devastating, beautifully done

I picked this up for our monthly circle and finished it long before the meeting. The dialogue is doing real work here; characters reveal themselves through what they avoid saying. A slightly tighter edit in the second act would have made it perfect. Easily a highlight of my reading list.

The kind of book you press into a friend's hands

This arrived at exactly the right point in my reading year. Every secondary character feels like they have a life off the page. Some readers will want more from the ending. Worth every hour.

    The middle section is extraordinary

I don't usually reach for this genre, which made the experience even better. The middle third is where it truly finds its confidence. I'm hoping the author writes more like this.

    I bought two more copies

This was my commute book and it made me miss my stop twice. The dialogue is doing real work here; characters reveal themselves through what they avoid saying. It does take fifty pages to settle into its rhythm. It sparked our longest discussion of the year.

    Deserves a wider readership

I picked this up for our monthly circle and finished it long before the meeting. Every secondary character feels like they have a life off the page. A slightly tighter edit in the second act would have made it perfect. Easily a highlight of my reading list.
